Open Studios

Ushaw is home to a diverse collection of artists and creative businesses, with studio spaces occupied by painters, illustrators, writers, musicians, silversmiths and conservators. On Saturday 4 April, we invite you to our Artists’ Open Studio Event, your all-access pass to see where the creative magic happens at Ushaw.

Taking place from 11am – 3pm, we’re throwing open the studio doors of several local artists so you can wander in, say hello, peek at works-in-progress, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the beautiful chaos behind the finished pieces.

You’ll get to wander through the creative spaces of several local artists, see what they’re working on, and chat with them in a relaxed, friendly setting. No pressure, no jargon, just a chance to see great art, and a behind-the-scenes peek at how it’s all made.

Let the creativity unfold throughout the day in our Francis Thompson Room, where you can enjoy engaging performances from our studio holders, with live music from Sam Slatcher at 12pm, Tin Pan Sally at 1pm and Songbird Music Space at 2pm.

Rosanna will be giving a demonstration of exploring our emotions through improvisation on piano, recorders, percussion and accordion.

The audience will have the opportunity to take part if they would like to.

So stroll around at your own pace, ask questions, get curious, and enjoy this rare look into the creative world behind the scenes. Who knows? You might even leave with a new favourite artist or a new piece of art for your wall.
